The school curriculum abides by the ACTFL National Standards for Foreign Languages. A two-track curriculum exists with separate classes for beginners and students with prior knowledge of German.
Track I is German as a foreign language. Track II is for children with prior knowledge of German.
Language education, culture and literature instruction are all components of the program in all sections along with projects, hands-on activities and games, as appropriate to age. Homework is assigned weekly.
Preschool and Kindergarten
Track I: Children are immersed in German. Playing while learning is an integral part of this program.
Track II: Children are immersed in German. Playing while learning is an integral part of this program.
Elementary Grades: 1st - 4th
Track I: Introduction to basic language with emphasis on comprehension and simple communication, reading and writing skills.
Track II: In addition to comprehension, speaking and vocabulary building exercises, there is an introduction to reading and writing and simple structural concepts of the language.
Middle School Grades: 5th - 8th
Track I: Continuation of previously learned materials. Also classes for new beginners.
Track II: Continuation of previously learned materials.
High School Grades: 9th - 12th
Track I: Continuation of previously learned materials. Also classes for new beginners.
Track II: Students practice advanced German language skills and are introduced to literature, history and geography.
Adults and Special Interest Groups
Classes are for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students. Emphasis is on mastering communicative requirements for social and business settings. The classroom atmosphere is relaxed and includes films and cultural programs.
Specialty classes and private lessons by appointment.
